Haitian

THIS Sentence condemns the man named Mallet, free mulâtre, holding the Ferry of Limbé, to pay to the woman named Marthe Dupré a sum of 3,600 livres, for the value of a nègre belonging to the said Marthe, and taken, together with the ferryman of the said Mallet, by the English Privateer Porkin. “And ruling on the further Conclusions of the Procureur du Roi, forbids all Ferrymen and Boatmen to carry in their Vessels any enslaved nègres, unless they carry a note from their enslavers.” The Sentence and the Regulation were confirmed by Decree of the Conseil du Cap of 18 February 1782.
