Raymond Philoctète, who named Haïti littéraire, dies in New York

Raymond Philoctète died in New York on 22 July 2007, aged eighty-two, and was buried in a Queens cemetery. He wrote the Minichroniques column in Le Nouvelliste through the 1970s and, with Silvio Baridon, Poésie vivante d’Haïti. He gave the Haïti littéraire group its name, and mentored the writers who came up around him.
