Piquant reaches the capital and is dismissed
At the beginning of May, General Piquant found himself in his turn surrounded by the Northerners in Dessalines. His communications with la Grande-Saline were cut by the troops of Saint-Marc and of the Gonaïves. He nevertheless succeeded in keeping them at bay. Finally, on 6 May, after a combat of 5 hours in which the Northerners were again repulsed, General Piquant himself gave his troops the signal for the rout, took flight, merely passed through Saint-Michel, where he drew General Saint-Fleur Paul along with him, and did not stop until Port-au-Prince, after covering nearly 80 lieues with his division in disorder: he entered the capital on 14 May. Dismissed, he took refuge in the French consulate and afterward embarked for abroad.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Dessalines ou Marchand.
