Pétion, sent against the South, entered Petit-Goâve with Yayou and joined the insurrection.

Haitian

Pétion, after hearing Yayou, said to him: “My mind cannot be in doubt: I also enter the insurrection; do as I do. Does the Emperor not govern us as a colonist of the worst kind would have done?” Thus Pétion, by his defection, dealt the last blow to the power of the colossus. He had left behind him the 11th and 12th, under the orders of Germain. He entered Petit-Goâve with Yayou on the 15th at noon (1); welcomed with enthusiasm by the 24th, he soon overcame the hesitations of Lamarre, chief of that corps (2). Then the generals Gérin and Vaval were admitted into the place with the 15th and 16th.
