Pétion issues an order of the day calling the armed residents of the Republic to assemble as national guard for a campaign against the North.

“Done at Port-au-Prince, 10 April 1809, Year VI.
“PÉTION.
“By the President, the Secretary-General, B. BLANCHET.”
Article 3 of the order of the day seemed to have General Gérin especially in view. Pétion, after all that had passed between him and that general, could not have recalled him to service with more dignity. It was an indirect step taken toward the old revolutionary. How, moreover, in the presence of the enthusiasm with which everyone was taking up arms, would Gérin have dared to remain a spectator?
