Painter Célestin Faustin is born near Jacmel, and his grandmother names him
Haitian
Célestin Faustin was born at Carrefour Canot, a hamlet of Lafond about ten kilometres from Jacmel, on 26 September 1948. He was the natural son of Célius Faustin, a farmer and horse breeder, and Mariana Théodore, a trader. His grandmother, the midwife who delivered him, named him and declared him chosen by Èzili Dantò. He painted out of popular Vodou mythology for the rest of his life.
