ORDINANCE of the Administrators, restoring liberty to two Portuguese nègres, carried off from the coasts of Brazil
Antoine Pellet and Antoine Paropet, free nègres, Portuguese by nation, most humbly represent to your Grandeurs that for about seven or eight years they have been languishing in the Prisons of the Conciergerie of Léogane, without being able to learn the cause of their detention. The Petitioners are natives of the Coast of Brazil, belonging to the Crown of Portugal, and they have the advantage of having been born free. An English Ship had been brought to these coasts, and was perhaps in danger there, or was short of provisions, when the Petitioners went out to its side in a canoe to carry some to it. They stayed there several days; but when they wished to return to land, the Captain had the baseness to set sail and to keep them there as enslaved people. In that state they were brought to New England. They do not know whether they were sold by that Captain.
