ORDINANCE of Police of the Lieutenant of the Amirauté of Jérémie, providing that in the future no new nègres may be landed and introduced into this Town unless they have been inspected by the Surgeon of the Amirauté

Haitian

WE, Louis-Barthelemi de Favarange, Lieutenant de Juge in the Royal Sénéchaussée of Jérémie, acting there as Lieutenant d’Amirauté, because of the illness and absence of the ordinary Lieutenant, established by his letter to M. Hue, Commis-Greffier. Having seen the Remonstrance, made to prevent the epidemic diseases brought twice into this Quarter within a few recent years by the nègres who were brought in without having been inspected; We provisionally order that the Surgeon of the Amirauté shall make an inspection, with exactness and caution, of all the nègres who arrive in this Port to be sold there. We say, consequently, that those who have just arrived there may not be landed until the said Surgeon of the Amirauté has inspected them and has delivered to the Captain a certificate of the said inspection, which shall be attached to his papers and presented with the said papers at the Greffe of the Amirauté, so that, the said certificate having been communicated to the Procureur du Roi and seen by Us, what is proper may be ruled; all on pain of fine against offenders.
