Ojeda captures the caciques Caonabo and Guarionex
Haitian
It was from there that those daring Castilians set out on 27 March 1495, commanded by Alphonse Ojeda, who seized by ruse the valiant Caonabo and the unfortunate Guarionex, caciques of the kingdom of Magua (Vega). One sees there only arid hills or groves of mangroves without charm, a few cacti and climbing plants. These heights receive little rain and have few springs. A pass leads to Maimon. The Soco River issues from Mount Isabélique.
Rouzier tells this under the entry ISABELIQUE ou ISABELA de la TORRE.
