Natives of the East expel the Spaniards and proclaim independence

Haitian

On 1 December 1821 the indigènes of the East drove out the Spaniards and proclaimed their independence; they joined their brothers of the West to form only one and the same republic. On 9 February 1822 the president of Haïti, Jean-Pierre Boyer, proclaimed at Santo-Domingo the constitution of the Republic of Haïti, which had been in force since October 1820 in the North, following the death of Christophe.

Rouzier tells this under the entry HAÏTI: the general article.
