Morisset and Marinier hold the Dattes bridge against Leclerc
Haitian
On 23 February 1802, after laying ambushes for the French army at the Coupe-à-Pintade, the Black officer Marinier withdrew in good order to the entrance of the Gonaïves, at the Dattes bridge. General Hardy reached the Dattes bridge without hindrance. There a battle was joined in which Morisset and Marinier drove back as far as the Tannerie the French commanded by Leclerc in person. Twelve thousand men, since daybreak, had been striving to enter the town, whose approaches were defended by only fourteen hundred indigènes.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Dattes (les).
