Minister Piquant issues orders of the day from fort Guibert
On 8 January 1889, the government troops marched from Williamson against the Nordistes encamped at fort Guibert, which they took on the 10th, after a struggle of an hour begun at the Robert crossroads. The enemy took flight, leaving six dead on the battlefield, among them two chiefs, Generals Fleurissaint and Déroche, the latter of Saint-Marc. From fort Guibert, the government army made its arrangements to advance on Mont-Rouis, an advanced post of the Nordistes. It was from fort Guibert that the minister of the interior O. Piquant dated his two orders of the day of 11 January 1889 to announce the victories won in those parts over the enemy of national unity, as the government called the Nordistes. The latter were not slow to retake fort Guibert in May, after General Piquant’s rout at Dessalines.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Guibert.
