Marion, Borde and their companions entered Léogane with Cangé without striking a blow.

Haitian

Marion, the soul of this defection, was named adjutant-general (1), and Borde chief of brigade. They concert with Cangé an attempt against the town; they take the direction of the troops and, in the same night of 23 frimaire, they enter it without striking a blow, after having made prisoners of the men who occupied the Bineau post. Borde marches against fort Ça-ira. Banglo wishes to defend himself. “But,” Borde says to him in a voice of thunder, “what are you doing, wretch? Do you not see that you are staking your life for a cause that cannot be yours?” Banglo remains undecided, climbs the rampart; there is fraternization. From then on there was no more communication between the town and the sea. The garrison found itself without any supplies.
