Magdeleine fort garrison abandons the Northern insurrection

MAGDELEINE. Mornes of the commune of Vallières, [ Perches ] on which a fort is established: an important strategic position. Its garrison deserted the insurrection of the Northerners on 8 January 1889 and rallied, following the example of Naltière, to the government of President Légitime. In 1869 the division of General Ulysse Bas was defeated by the Cacos of Vallières encamped at the fort of the morne Magdeleine.
