They march swiftly on the Porte del Conde and occupy it without striking a blow, for the guard had been won over. Joaquim Puello at once detaches a troop to go and seize the post of the customs house. He orders his political coreligionists to begin fortifying the Puerta del Conde. It was eleven o’clock at night.
