Port-au-Prince. The Senate declares that Rébecca and the insurgents have deserved well of the country

Meanwhile the deputation that Rébecca had sent to Port-au-Prince to announce his rising had arrived there. The news had set off the liveliest joy throughout the Republic. On the same day President Pétion, by a proclamation, had called on all the young men to take up arms and march against Christophe. He had announced to the nation that the people of the North, acknowledging the Constitution of 27 December 1806, had sent him a deputation, and that he would soon give the signal for departure.
