Petite-Rivière de l’Artibonite. Dessalines reviews Gabart’s division

On 16 February 1805, at Petite-Rivière de l’Artibonite, the emperor reviewed Gabart’s division, 5,400 strong, composed of the first two battalions of the 4th, 8th and 14th, the second battalion of the 7th, the whole of the 20th, two companies of the first artillery regiment and a squadron of the 1st cavalry regiment. Gabart had under his orders the brigadier generals Magny and Cangé. This division moved off the same day, crossed with great difficulty the Artibonite, whose waters were in flood, and halted on the Maugé plantation. As for Dessalines, he left Petite-Rivière on the 17th and reached Le Mirebalais the same day at 5 in the afternoon. The next day General Gabart entered that town at the head of his division. There the emperor reviewed the 10th demi-brigade and two battalions of the 3rd.
