Port-au-Prince. Rochambeau arrives in its roadstead on the evening of 19 March with the Duquesne and the Duguay-Trouin and lands at sunrise the next day.

Captain-General Rochambeau, who had announced as early as February his departure for the department of the West, embarked in the middle of March for Port-Républicain. He was full of fury against the men of color, whom he accused of being the authors of the revolt in the department of the South. On the evening of 19 March he came within sight of Port-Républicain. The principal officials who accompanied him were aboard the ships of the line Duquesne and Duguay-Trouin. He landed in the town the next day at sunrise.
