Le Cap. Charles Bélair executed there

On 12 September (25 Fructidor) General Dugua, chief of the general staff, published this letter of Dessalines in the order of the day. Leclerc made Captain Gauthier, Dessalines’s aide-de-camp, whom Dessalines had warmly praised, a battalion commander. To try Charles Bélair within the six hours following his arrival at Le Cap, he formed a commission whose members were General of Division Dugua, president, General of Brigade Clervaux, Generals of Brigade Dubarquier and Claparède, and Chef de Brigade Abbé. He will be executed at Le Cap on 5 October 1802.
