Talavigne. Dupéroy reaches it and betrays the evacuation to Dessalines.

At eight o’clock in the evening of 12 March 1800 the garrison set itself in motion and left the town, except for the troops who held the blockhouse. These, to cover the evacuation, were to hold out in the fortification as long as possible. But Dupéroy, the white physician who until then had shown himself so devoted to the people of Jacmel, had reached Talavigne before nightfall and had told Dessalines that the garrison was about to leave the town, not by the Baynet road, but by the path that ran along the blockhouse. As soon as the first darkness of night had fallen, Dessalines had gathered the greater part of his army at that point.
