Port-au-Prince. Dessources arrives there from Saint-Marc with 2,000 men.

Toussaint, master of the Grands-Bois, hesitated to cross the plain of the Cul-de-Sac to effect his junction with Pétion’s column. General Simcoe took advantage of this to recall to Port-Républicain the Baron de Montalembert, who held the camp of Thomazeau at the foot of the mornes of the Grands-Bois, so as to reinforce the division intended to drive the Republicans from the mornes of the Hôpital and of La Coupe and to relieve camp Grenier, already closely invested. Colonel Dessources received orders to go from Saint-Marc to Port-Républicain with 2,000 men. The general attack was fixed for 15 April. But Dessources, hindered by the east wind, could reach Port-Républicain only on 26 April.
