The day after the departure of the English, General Rigaud arrived at Léogane. Bauvais set out from Jacmel and came to meet him there. They resolved to convene primary assemblies for the election of deputies to the legislative body, although they had not yet officially received the Constitution of the Year III. The electoral assembly of the West met at Léogane and elected as deputies Reydelmas and Fontaine; that of the South, meeting at Les Cayes on 9 April, elected Sala, a white man, Pinchinat, Julien Raymond, Décand, a white man, George Pierre, a Black man, and Daniel Gélec, a mulatto. Most of these deputies would soon embark for the metropole, whose attention was turning seriously to Saint-Domingue.
