Tiburon. Rigaud repulsed by Sevré and Jean Kina.

General Rigaud, for his part, set out from Les Cayes with 2,000 men and two four-pounders and appeared before Tiburon on 16 April. At three o’clock in the morning he attacked the town, which was defended by the Chevalier de Sevré with Jean Kina under his orders. He was repulsed and left 170 dead around the place. This victory cost the English dearly; for besides a hundred of Jean Kina’s soldiers, they lost 28 Europeans and had 109 mortally wounded. As there were few English troops in Saint-Domingue, such victories weakened the victors more than the vanquished. Rigaud was wounded in this action.
