Le Cap. Patriots rise against Blanchelande.

Meanwhile several regiments promised by the metropolitan government arrived in the colony; but Blanchelande did not know how to employ them. Besides, under constant attack from the revolutionary party led by Larchevêque Thibaud, a great agitator and procureur syndic of the Municipality, he saw the patriots rise against him on 27 March. Brigands roamed the streets of Le Cap in broad daylight, crying: “Citizens, look to yourselves; shut your doors; to arms! to arms!” But happily a reaction in his favor took place, led by the young royalists; and the party of the poor whites had the worst of it. Had Blanchelande known how to profit by his triumph, the agitators would have been crushed entirely.
