Port-Salut. The Port-au-Prince regiment landed here.

M. de Blanchelande, answering the call of the town of Les Cayes, sent Colonel de Mauduit there. The Port-au-Prince regiment landed at Port-Salut on 28 November 1790. Mauduit went to Les Cayes and marched from there on the camp at the Ravine. The men of color, threatened by forces superior in numbers and in tactics, dispersed. Rigaud was taken prisoner, and his companions were disarmed and treated with haughtiness by M. de Mauduit, who said to them: “Free people of color, I speak to you in the name of the nation, the law and the king; you have been led astray by foolish pretensions; you must never cross the line of demarcation that separates you from the whites, your fathers and your benefactors; return to your duty…..”
