Aquin. The whites set out for it and arrived on 25 November, then attacked Labadie in his dwelling

Volume I. Page 37. In place of the circumstances of the assassination of Labadie as they are related in Volume I, page 37, read: The whites, excited by this first crime, set out for Aquin, where they arrived on 25 November. They entered the dwelling of one Labadie, a man of color, fired twenty-five musket shots at him, and tied him to the tail of a horse, which they sent off at a gallop along a stony road. The spirited animal stopped only on the unfortunate man’s plantation, three leagues from the town. Labadie’s family, after being insulted, gave every kind of care to this bloodied body. Labadie escaped death only by a miracle. He lived several years more. Because of his wisdom and the purity of his morals, he was called the venerable throughout the whole canton. The whites had accused him of being the accomplice of Ferrand de Baudières.
