Le Cap. Makandal burned alive on its square.

It was discovered that he had conceived the gigantic plan of exterminating the Whites and proclaiming the Liberty and Independence of the Black Race in Saint-Domingue. He was tried and condemned to be burned alive by a decree of the council of the province of the North dated 20 January 1758. He was executed on the square of Le Cap, amid an immense crowd whom he still terrified, though chained to a stake in the midst of the pyre.
