Louis-Joseph Janvier, who wrote back at the race theorists, dies

Louis-Joseph Janvier died on 24 March 1911. He was born in Port-au-Prince on 7 May 1855, trained as a physician in Paris, and spent his life answering with a pen. He tore into the racial theories that European writers built to justify what they had done to Africa, and he named the foreign merchants who grew more arrogant in Haiti every year. From 1894 to 1903 he served as Haitian minister resident in London. He was a journalist, diplomat and novelist, and his nationalism was the ultra kind, no apologies offered.
