LETTER of the Minister to the Administrators, on the Misallied
I AM informed that settlers of the Colonies who have contracted alliances with girls of mixed blood, which render them unfit to enjoy any privileges, have had themselves provided in France with offices to which nobility is attached, and have sought to extend the effect of them in the Colonies, by soliciting here the orders necessary for the registration of their titles in the Conseils Supérieurs. As it is important to maintain in the Colonies the principles established there against mixed blood, His Majesty approves that, notwithstanding any orders that may have been obtained by surprise, the Conseils Supérieurs suspend the registration of the titles of persons who have such an origin, taking care, however, to record the reasons in a resolution, a copy of which they will deliver to you, and which you will please send me so that I may report it to the King.
Deposited in the Conseil du Cap, the 27 January 1775.
