LETTER from the Minister to MM. D’ESRAGNY and DUMAITZ DE COIMPY, concerning the French nègres carried off from Saint-Christophe

Haitian

I have reported to the King what you write me on the dispute between the Shipowners who went to carry off the nègres left at Saint-Christophe and the persons to whom these nègres belonged; His Majesty has already made his intentions known to you in this regard, and he judges that, by giving these claimants the nègres for half of their fair value, all the Parties ought to be content, since they have their nègres at a price much lower than what they are worth, and without the Shipowners they would have lost them, and the Shipowners, since they are compensated by the half paid to them for the costs of an expedition that they had not fitted out with the aim of carrying off these nègres. Collated by M. Dumaitz. Registered at the Conseil of Petit-Goave on the first of October 1692.
