Lestrades seized the first redoubt at Mirebalais and David-Troy evacuated the other two.
The army, victorious, pushed on as far as Las-Cahobas, which it burned. Pétion returned to invest the fort of Le Mirebalais. On 12 prairial (1 June) some women come out of the redoubts and make for the river of Le Bourg to draw water. The commandant Lestrades was going at that moment to the post occupied by Guerrier (1), chief of battalion in the 7th. At the sight of him the women, seized with terror, flee to regain the redoubts. Lestrades suddenly cries To arms! and at the head of all who rally to his call he pursues the women and enters the first redoubt at the same time as they; the other two, surprised also, are evacuated in disorder by David-Troy with his company of gendarmerie and some detachments of the 89th (1). Enveloped on all sides, this chief nevertheless managed to cut himself a way through, to reach the Grands-Bois and to come, at the head of 160 men, to the camp of Thomazeau, at the entrance of the plain of the Cul-de-Sac (2).
