Le Moniteur haïtien announces mineral discoveries by M. de Téano
Haitian
The Moniteur haïtien of 22 April 1886 announced that M. de Téano, mineralogist and geologist, who had accompanied M. Ferdinand de Lesseps on the isthmus of Panama, had been in Port-au-Prince for some weeks; that he had just made an exploratory journey in the department of the North; that he had discovered deposits of magnetized iron at the morne Békly, of gypsum at Ennery, of copper sulfate at the Grande-Rivière du Nord, of sulfur at Plaisance, and other mines of great value besides, in various other places. Already in 1861 the newspaper l’Opinion nationale of Port-au-Prince, editor in chief M. D. Pouilh, had spoken in detail of the magnetized iron ores of the morne Békly.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Békly ou Baiklet.
