Jean-Baptiste Romain, father of physical anthropology in Haiti, dies at eighty

Jean-Baptiste Romain died in Port-au-Prince on 31 October 1994, aged eighty. A native of Cap-Haïtien, he was a man of letters, an educator and an ethnologist, and is regarded as the father of physical anthropology in Haiti. He helped found the Faculté d’Ethnologie and the Centre de Recherche en Sciences Humaines et Sociales.
