Hurricane strikes the Cap

Haitian

The winds that prevail at the Cap are winds from the east, north and southwest. The north winds bring cold and dampness from October until March. The west winds are heavy, hot and humid; they give the most painful impression of hot climates. A south wind, as at Puerto-Plata, coming from the land, blows during the night. In 1751 the north winds lasted 52 days without interruption, and as long as 102 days in 1787. Since its founding the town has been tried by numerous hurricanes, notably those of 14 August 1680, 13 August 1765 and 27 September 1785.

Rouzier tells this under the entry Cap-haïtien (le).
