Hurricane destroys the village of Dondon
The ground on which the village is established is raised about 500 meters above sea level. The whole territory of the commune is made up of mountains interspersed and separated by valleys. Pyrites, rubies and marble are found there. A hurricane destroyed this village on 4 August 1772. The base of these mountains is granite. A gorge, very important from the military point of view, connects Dondon with Saint-Raphaël. In ancient times, the French had their frontier post of Laporte, or de la Porte, there. The Joli-Trou, the Fond-Chevalier, the Cormiers and the Grand-Gilles are the gorges that join this mountain village to the valley of the Grande-Rivière du Nord. The commune also borders Milot, the Plaine du Nord, the Acul-du-Nord, the Marmelade and Saint-Michel; it radiates over seven localities and between two arrondissements: that of the Cap-haïtien and that of the Marmelade. It serves as a link between the department of the North and that of the Artibonite.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Dondon.
