Hundreds march in Petion-Ville demanding Jean-Claude Duvalier’s return

Haitian

Four months after the earthquake, several hundred people marched through the streets of Petion-Ville with drums, calling for the return of Jean-Claude Duvalier from exile. Most were members of the Parti de l’Unite Nationale. Duvalier had fled Haiti on 7 February 1986 after fifteen years of a dictatorship that jailed, tortured and killed its critics. The 22nd of May was a Duvalierist anniversary, the day the regime used to celebrate its victories over the kamoken. Duvalier came back to Haiti in January 2011 and died in 2014 without ever standing trial.
