Herby Widmaier, founder of Radio Métropole, dies at eighty-four
Haitian
Herbert Widmaier, called Herby, was born in Port-au-Prince in 1933. Singer, composer, arranger, sound engineer and filmmaker, he founded Radio Métropole in 1970 and rebuilt what a Haitian radio station could sound like. He died at his home in the early morning of 27 April 2017, aged eighty-four, of the heart trouble he had lived with. Le Nouvelliste and AlterPresse both carried the news that day.
