Henri Christophe creates the Royal and Military Order of Saint Henry

Christophe proclaimed the Kingdom of Haiti on 28 March 1811 and took the throne as Henri I. On 20 April 1811 he created the Royal and Military Order of Saint Henry to bind a new nobility to him. The order held the king as grand master, the royal prince, sixteen grand crosses, thirty-two commanders, and knights capped for the moment at 250. An endowment of 300,000 livres was attached to it, the grand crosses drawing 3,500 livres each. Christophe was crowned on 2 June 1811. Nine years later he shot himself at Sans-Souci and the kingdom died with him.
