Gonaïves evacuated; Toussaint’s family meets Vernet at Morne Grammont
Haitian
In February 1802, at the moment when Leclerc was marching against Toussaint from the Cap to the Gonaïves, the latter sent his wife, Isaac his son, his sisters, and the Misses Chancy, his nieces, to the habitation Cocherel, whose approaches he had guarded by Morisset at the head of a squadron. The family of the ex-governor betook itself to the morne Grammont, where Vernet met it after the evacuation of the Gonaïves on 24 February 1802.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Cocherel.
