Freedmen of Les Cayes seize Fort Tourterelle against the civil commissioners’ delegates

On 28 August 1796, the affranchis of the Cayes seized the fort of the Tourterelle against the authority of the delegates of the civil commissioners. General Desfourneaux and the delegate Rey embarked for the Gonaïves in the face of this demonstration.
