Father Morice named first bishop of Les Cayes

By order of the president of Haiti, dated 9 February 1893, the Reverend Father Morice, Jean Marie Alexandre, administrator of the dioceses of Gonaives and the Cayes and of the archdiocese of Port au Prince, was named the first bishop of the Cayes. Before him, the abbé Ronvel, parish priest of the Cayes, had been designated to be bishop, but this respectable old man died in 1880 without having received the reward for the services he had rendered the country.
