Duveyrier and Dessalines signed the capitulation by which Rochambeau agreed to abandon Cap within ten days.
Haitian
Such courage and devotion were to have their reward. An act of capitulation was signed at the Haut-du-Cap, on 27 brumaire (19 November), between adjutant-commandant Duveyrier and Dessalines: Rochambeau pledged himself to abandon the town within ten days, and to hand over the arsenals with their munitions of war, their artillery and other arms. Dessalines, by article 5 of the treaty, took upon himself the engagement to care for the sick and the wounded unfit to be transported, until their perfect recovery. THESE SICK AND THESE WOUNDED WERE ESPECIALLY COMMENDED TO HIS HUMANITY. Rochambeau sent as hostage adjutant-commandant Deveaux, and Dessalines sent adjutant-general Bazelais.
