Dumont taken aboard the English warship Théseus
Haitian
On 8 September 1803 the French General Dumont obtained a meeting, on the habitation Sicard, with the indigène General Daut Brave, who was investing the town of Fort Liberté. He proposed to the indigènes that they open a market at the gates of the town. The indigènes, instead of answering him, took him prisoner and led him to the habitation Blancourt. The French evacuated Fort Liberté and were conducted to the Cap by the English, who were blockading the place by sea. The next day General Daut Brave sent the battalion commander Charles Pierre to accompany General Dumont on board the English warship Théseus, at the request of the English. General Dumont was taken to Jamaica as a prisoner of war.
Rouzier tells this under the entry BLANCOURT.
