Dessalines’s army enters Bani
Haitian
On 4 March 1805, at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, the army of Dessalines, marching against Santo Domingo, entered Bani. The village was found deserted. On the return of the Haitian troops from the siege of Santo Domingo, they were met on the deserted beach of Bani by the heaviest fire from a French brig that had moored not far from the shore. Gabart, Pétion, Geffrard and Gérin avoided the grapeshot by entering the gorges of the Ocoa River.
Rouzier tells this under the entry BANI.
