Deputy Saint-Laurent expelled from the Chamber in the Darfour affair

Haitian

The most illustrious figures of national history who were also born at the Cayes are: Geffrard, the father of the president of that name, Pierre Faubert, Jean-Louis François, Charles Hérard the elder, Michel Domingue, Boisrond-Canal, Salomon, these last four having been presidents of Haiti, Saint-Rémy, the author of the Vie de Pétion, Thimagène, Septimus, Octave and Dantès Rameau, Prosper Faure, Apollon, who were secretaries of State, the writers and poets Emeric Bergeaud, Etienne Berret, Lhérisson the songwriter; Saint-Laurent, who was expelled from the Chamber of Communes on 30 August 1822 (the Darfour affair), Hérard Dumesle, who was in his turn expelled from the Chamber on 14 August 1833, both represented the commune of the Cayes. Dumesle reappeared in 1839 in the Chamber, which he presided over; he contributed not a little to the overthrow of the government of President Boyer, and received a gold medal from his electors.

Rouzier tells this under the entry Cayes (les).
