DECREE of the Conseil of Léogane, on the subject of the payment for Enslaved people condemned to death
THE Procureur-Général du Roi having entered the Conseil, remonstrated that, on a Petition which he presented to said Conseil, it pleased it to render its Decree on 16 March 1705, which orders, with the consent of all the Settlers assembled for this purpose, the levy of a sum of money to be used for the payment of a certain number of men to hunt the fugitive enslaved people, in order to return them to obedience, and to keep them in their duty, on the promises that MM. Auger and Deslandes had made to obtain the approval of the King; that of this sum, which had been fixed at 15000 livres, there was only that of 5600 livres set aside for the payment of the executed nègres, and of those who would be found killed by said Men, whether in defending themselves, or in fleeing.
