DECREE of the Conseil of Cap for the execution of the Regulations concerning schools
HAVING SEEN by the Conseil the remonstrance of the Procureur-Général du Roi, stating that he is obliged to place before the Court the documents he has received concerning the public school that the man named Chasset, free mulâtre, presumes to keep in the town of Ouanaminthe without any authorization, in contempt of the Decree of the Court of October 4, 1717, and of the Ordinance of MM. de Larnage and Maillart of May 7, 1745, which require schoolmasters to have themselves recognized by the Curés and the ordinary Juges. Pierre Dulac, schoolmaster of the same town, approved and registered in accordance with that Ordinance, had brought the undertaking of this mulâtre before the Juge of Fort-Dauphin, but instead of pronouncing against him the penalties set by the Law, the Substitut of the Procureur-Général was content to make a request, and the Juge to issue against Chasset a prohibition on keeping a school. This vague prohibition, dated September 2 last, was served the next day on Chasset, who took no notice of it.
