DECREE of the Conseil of Cap concerning the reimbursement of the price of a nègre sentenced to the galleys in perpetuity

Haitian

SEEN by the Court the petition presented to it by Dumas Machoquet at Petit-Carénage, tending to ask that it please the said Court, having seen the Decree of the first of April last, sentencing his nègre Saint-Éloi to the galleys in perpetuity; the Decree of the 28th of the same month which, on his request for reimbursement for the said nègre, orders, before ruling, that he prove his ownership of the said nègre in the prescribed forms; the deed of sale made to him before Maîtres Hourclatx and his colleague, Notaires in this town, by the sieur Rabier Machoquet, of four nègres, named Saint-Eloi, etc., on January 13 last; the enumeration he gave on April 16 last, from the date of which, and from that of the Decree against the said nègre Saint-Eloi, of the 1st of the same month, it results that this nègre could not and should not have been entered on the enumeration, since the petitioner would have burdened himself with the capitation charges for the whole year for this nègre.
