Conspiracy among the tirailleurs in the palace courtyard
Haitian
In the night of 22 to 23 February 1867, a vast conspiracy broke out among the riflemen in the very courtyard of the palace of President Geffrard, and the prisoners were set free. The house of Mr. Cesvet, the president’s son-in-law, was pillaged. At daybreak, Prosper Elie and his son Justin, who had gone to the fort of the Portail Saint Joseph, met their death. The other conspirators fled.
Rouzier tells this under the entry PORT-AU PRINCE [le].
