Columbus reaches Santo Domingo and Ovando lodges him in his own house

Haitian

He says that Diego de Salcedo, his servant, had an uneasy heart, because he saw that he could not remove or kill the suspicion that was still held of the Admiral, his lord. As for what he says, that on seeing the signature of that last letter of the Comendador Mayor he had been glad, he said it because that was the first for him in which he was Comendador Mayor, since before he signed and was Comendador de Lares; it appears that the news then reached him of how the Sovereigns had made him Comendador Mayor. At last, he reached this port and city of Sancto Domingo on the 13th day of August of the said year 1504. The Comendador Mayor went out to receive him with the whole city, paying him reverence and festivity. He left him his house to lodge in, and had him served there most completely.
